The "March Against Sharia" will take place Saturday at City Hall Plaza on 4th Avenue.
The marches set up the potential for more public clashes between far-right activists and their far-left opposition, similar to recent violent encounters between the political extremes in Berkeley, Calif. and Portland, Ore.
"When we see these kinds of crimes, where Muslims are being assaulted and attacked, we find these same words and slurs that are used by ACT for America", Buhkari said. Roper promoted the marches on his podcast, where he said Muslims "are not welcome in our nation and, of course, endgame, on our planet".

An array of liberal Jewish groups has signed on to letters to 29 mayors urging them to denounce planned "anti-sharia" marches this weekend. They identified themselves as fallible human beings so their answers as they were reading the Quran for example, they acknowledge that they could be wrong in their interpretation. The group has not planned a march for the nation's capital.
GJELTEN: Zamora's big issue and one highlighted in all the marches is female genital mutilation practiced in some conservative Muslim societies. Rather than monolithic and rigid, the Muslim world is vast and diverse, with different interpretations of the obligations imposed by Sharia upon the observant. "Show our state that we will not put up with anymore anti-Muslim sentiments from our community members", the organizer said on Facebook.
There's a lot of talk about hate - the hatred some Muslims hold for those they consider "infidels", and the hate many in the West harbor for Muslims as a result of worldwide terrorism, including the 9/11 attacks.

Two other groups in Syracuse have announced counter rallies. How influential is ACT for America within this network? "She also says every practicing Muslim is a radical Muslim". But the country needs to have "a hard conversation", she said. So the only situation where you wouldn't do that would be in a situation where you are prohibited from doing mandatory things under Islam.
The group is using social media to promote the event. Since ACT for America brings up FGM, Pulver points out that the matter is already being dealt with by law enforcement and state legislators of both parties. And Gabriel tweeted earlier this year that she had a meeting at the White House. She is an avid supporter of President Donald Trump.
The anti-Sharia march is one of many organized by ACT for America, which is the "largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in America, claiming 280,000 members and over 1,000 chapters", according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Right-wing paramilitary groups such as the Oath Keepers offered to provide private security at the rallies. "We're actually helping to fight for Muslim women, who are disproportionately affected the most by these practices". It's usually said by people who don't very know very much about the details of what women's rights are within Islamic law. "It's important for local leaders to express solidarity and make clear we stand against bigotry, against racism and with our Muslim neighbors in the state and beyond".

Members of the alt-right - a loosely knit movement that includes white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other far-right groups - have announced their intention to participate in numerous marches.
