He says the deaths were being investigated as possibly domestic-related.

Police say Lisa Fischer, 49, and Christopher Pena, 30, were headed east on the Chicago Skyway in a maroon Chrysler sedan after 4 a.m. Wednesday when she got out and started running away, The Chicago Tribune reported.

The vehicle crashed into a wall further along the Skyway, police said, and an officer responding to the incident saw the man running toward his auto.

Pena, 30, got out of the vehicle while it was still moving, and fired several shots at Fischer, striking her in the body.

Chicago Skyway tollbooth at 88th Street. Both victims were shot near the toll booths.

Police had not been able to identify the couple as of late Wednesday morning, but they completed the initial stage of their investigation and reopened the Chicago Skyway, which connects Chicago and IN, about five hours after the 4:15 a.m. shooting. The closure was not expected to be over until about 11 a.m., according to official IDOT traffic information.
