Teenager fatally shot, trying to stop dog attack on LA sheriff's deputies

The boy, Armando Garcia, 17, apparently tried to jump on the dog to prevent the aggressive dog from attacking police.

A deputy's bullet that was sacked at a charging pit bull apparently ricocheted off the ground and hit and killed a 17-year-old boy who had been helping to restrain the dog, authorities said Thursday.

Several TV news stations report deputies were responding to a loud party. A 17-year-old male teenager came out to restrain the dog and took him to the rear of the complex.

The boy, a Palmdale resident, died at 4:28 a.m.at a hospital, the coroner's office reported.

The sheriff's department said the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities did not immediately say what prompted deputies to fire on the teen.
