A 200-foot sinkhole opened up under a home in Land O'Lakes, Florida early Friday morning, causing one home to be nearly entirely swallowed, another partially destroyed, and a neighborhood-wide evacuation.

Surrounding homes were being evacuated as a safety precaution.

Two dogs inside one of the destroyed homes were rescued.

This is a breaking news story.

Terror in Egypt as six woman tourists stabbed at a holiday resort
An initial investigation suggests that the man reached the hotel by swimming from a nearby beach and attacked the tourists. The man reached the beach of the resort as he swam through another beach, it said.

The limestone dissolves over time due to acidic underground water caused by oxygen, and as the rock dissolves, the earth above the growing caverns becomes too heavy, collapsing into a sinkhole. "Hole grew fast and swallowed that home pretty quickly", the Pasco PIO said.

By 9:30 a.m., authorities said, the sinkhole had destroyed the home and had spread to another home next door.

The sinkhole is located at 21835 Ocean Pines Drive in Land O' Lakes, Florida.

But there was concern that the hole could expand to the lake near the homes, he said.

Crews are holding a 200-foot perimeter from the edge.

Authorities said a sinkhole opened on the same property five years ago.

"It was frightening", Guthrie said. The home was sold in 2015. "But again, Mother Nature is going to take what Mother Nature is going to take", he said.
