Help is on the way to the Mariners' injury-wracked starting rotation. The Mariners acquire an $18 million option for 2021 with a $5 million buyout. This is his ninth season in the majors, and he signed a five-year deal with St. Louis after a strong campaign in 2015 in which he had a 3.70 ERA and career-best 1.16 WHIP for the Reds and Giants.

Leake, 29, was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals along with cash considerations and worldwide slot money in exchange for minor league infielder Rayder Ascaino.

Leake has roughly $55 million left on his contract, so the Mariners may be absorbing the brunt of the money he's still owed while providing the Cardinals with some salary relief and an open spot on the 40-man roster.

Critics inside Lebanon say Hezbollah's involvement in Syria inflamed sectarian tensions at home and brought jihadists to the door. State news agency SANA said 10 people were killed and 28 wounded when the vehicles they were traveling in drove over mines.

Leake has a 7-12 record and a 4.21 ERA this season.

The Mariners and Cardinals are both now on the periphery of their leagues' Wild Card races.

This trade was pretty slick for Jerry Dipoto. Since the start of the 2012 season, Leake's 180 starts are tied for the most in the National League with the Washington Natioanls' Gio Gonzalez. "As one of the most durable starters over most of the last decade, he'll be a valuable addition for not just the near future, but for seasons to come". He's 2-9 with a 5.78 ERA in his last 16 starts, including a 6.90 ERA in nine starts since the All-Star break. Since 2010 he's made the second-most starts in the NL.
