US Open: Hunger and passion sees Rafael Nadal's appetite continue unabated

While his battling South African opponent kept the contest from being a complete blowout, there was never a single moment when Nadal was under threat.

The world number one was a class above his courageous opponent who was playing his first Grand Slam final match at Flushing Meadows.

That was further established when Nadal won his 16th career Grand Slam title and his third US Open.

The win gave the 31-year-old Spaniard his 16th Grand Slam crown, the second-most of all time behind only Roger Federer, who won his 19th earlier this summer at Wimbledon. He was 16 for 16 at the net during Sunday's US Open final as he picked the ideal and right moments to come forward and showed no mercy when finishing the points with those volleys.

"Well done for Roger that he is having an incredible season too and well done for me because I'm having a great season too".

Antonio Brown's big day helps Steelers beat Browns, 21-18
They deferred after winning the coin toss, drove the Browns backward on three plays and then blocked a punt by Britton Colquitt. After the players protested before the Giants game, team leader Christian Kirksey told reporters, "We did it out of respect".

Nadal has spent a total of more than 140 weeks at No. 1, his spot right now.

"I really don't think much about these kind of things".

"So it's been a very interesting year on the grand slam front".

Winning two majors and making three Grand Slam finals in a single season would be a special accomplishment and accolade for most players, but what does this serious resurgence in 2017 mean to the man that has already accomplished so much over his illustrious career? And I wake up every morning with a passion to go on court and try to improve things and probably that is why I still have chances to compete in this sport and to do it well. "Certainly will be very interesting to see what happens next year".

"Well done for Roger that he is having an awesome season, too, and well done for me because I'm having a great season, too".

Defense, Golladay star as Lions surge past Cardinals
After forcing yet another punt, Stafford looked to Golladay again, heaving a bomb out of play-action. The football fever is here, Arizona Cardinals lock horns with Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Then Nadal sprung to new life in 2017, winning two of the year's four Grand Slams and looking as fit as ever - a flawless role model for Woods, offering both a roadmap and inspiration for a Woods comeback, if the golfer's body will let him travel that path. "I just want to say sorry for all the victims and keep going for everybody", Nadal said.

"I'm very happy with all the things that are happening to me". I have this trophy with me. That's a lot of positive energy for me. Being healthy, you see everything more possible, no?

"I feel happy to be part of this rivalry, but at the same time, I played even more matches with Novak [Djokovic] than with Roger in such important matches, too".

"Thanks to life for giving me that opportunity. this US Open I feel a little bit like home".
