Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele will be out for up to four months with a hamstring injury. The club's record signing, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in a deal which could be worth £135.5m, hobbled off during Saturday's win over Getafe.

The France global lasted less than half-an-hour minutes after limping off, being replaced by Gerard Deulofeu in the 2-1 win over Getafe.

Barcelona released a statement explaining how the 20-year-old had this morning travelled to Finland's capital.

McDermott seems to have already won the respect of his players, and now's an opportunity for them to prove it to their coach. They were bailed out by a defense that new coordinator Steve Wilks says has a chance to be the best in the league.

"The French player has ruptured the tendon in the femoral bicep of his left thigh and will be operated on by Dr. Sakari Orava in Finland this week", the Catalonian club announced on its official website.

Dembele was injured during Saturday's Spanish league match at Getafe, when he needed to be substituted in the 28th minute.

Deulofeu will be called upon to step up in Dembele's absence, while Denis Suarez could also be very useful in softening the blow of his injury.

But none of the alternative options offer the same pace and width as Dembele, which is something Barca boss had stressed he was keen to add to the squad following the loss of Neymar to PSG in August.

"According to the medical announcement that the club made public this Sunday, Dembele will be out of action for three-and-a-half to four months".
