UPDATE 2-'Rat-a-tat' of Las Vegas gunfire points to automatic or modified weapons

Feinstein pleaded with the public to pressure Congress to consider her legislation after the horrific violence earlier this week when a gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds at an outdoor concert that she said her own daughter had considered attending.

Bump-fire stocks allow semi-automatic guns to mimic automatic firearms by bumping the trigger - using the recoil of the gun bouncing backward with each shot - into the user's finger.

"It was President Obama's.Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in 2010 that decided not to regulate this device", said Conway, whose boss was endorsed by the National Rifle Association and has rolled back some gun regulations since taking office in January. The devices can be used to convert a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic one, according to experts, rapidly increasing the gun's rate of fire.

In all, police say Paddock had 23 guns inside room 32135 of the Mandalay Bay hotel, and another 19 at his home.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, asked whether President Donald Trump might now favor tighter gun laws, told reporters: "I think that's something that we can talk about in the coming days and see what that looks like moving forward".

Syria war: Turkey-backed rebels attack jihadists in Idlib
Calling the operation a "new step" to establish security in Idlib, he promised Turkey would not desert civilians there. The de-escalation zones will be patrolled by military observers, but Idlib is by far the most significant.

The device is called a "bump-stock".

"Clearly that's something we need to look into", Mr Ryan told a United States radio programme, adding that many lawmakers had not been aware until now that such devices existed. "We are not going to knee-jerk react to every situation", he said.

Synder said that because bump stocks only simulate automatic fire and do not alter the firearm, they are legal under current laws.

And you can legally purchase or possess a machine gun, which is a fully automatic weapon - so long as it's legally registered and possessed in compliance with all federal laws and regulations.

It was a rare concession for all concerned.

Anti-nuclear group awarded Nobel Peace Prize
The creation of ICAN was inspired by the success of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, Nobel Peace Prize victor in 1997. If this weren't enough, US President Donald Trump is expected next week to withdraw his endorsement of the Iran nuclear deal.

In June, to mark the National Gun Violence Awareness Day, she made an appeal to protect children. The nation's largest gun lobby and most Republicans have stood firmly in recent years against stricter gun regulations, even as one mass shooting after another horrified the nation.

The law increased the number of states with gun permits that Nevada recognizes, overrode more liberal counties - like the one where Las Vegas sits - from passing their own gun-control measures, and expanded the definition of justifiable homicide to include people who protect themselves from an attack while in their vehicle.

Subsequent mass shootings have brought a similar call for Congress to act on tougher gun laws, only to see Republicans and some Democrats balk at what they see as infringements on the right to bear arms embedded in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Still, he said, "it's a pretty small concession in the realm of gun stuff. It's a very specific accessory".

The device, which retails for around $200, is not known among gun dealers as an item that is hugely popular. Because it creates a significant rocking motion it also means that the gun is "spraying" bullets and it's hard to hit a target.

The already-heated debate has come to the forefront once again following the Las Vegas shooting. In 2012, Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree in Newtown, Connecticut, killing his mother before murdering 26 students and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School; in 2007, 32 people were killed in the Virginia Tech massacre.
