It must have been terrifying for Gomez to be unable to do something as simple as open a water bottle, and that really shows how much she was suffering at the time. But clearly, she has the support of one fantastic friend.

Forced to face her mortality, the young singer didn't want to ask any of her loved ones for help. And I said, 'What's wrong?' and that's when she told me. She was scared about it all, but knew she wanted to do this for Gomez. The list is seven to ten years long.' It just vomited out of me: "I was like, 'Of course I'll get tested, '" she explained.

The Dear White People actress went through the full evaluations to see if she'd be a match, completing a process that usually takes about six months in a single day because of the "emergency" situation.

But she didn't need to ask Francia, who lived with Selena at the time and had witnessed the singer's deteriorating condition firsthand.

The friends also detailed their lengthy recovery process, which left the two with little to do but sit or lay around as their bodies healed from the surgery. Gomez's kidney apparently flipped inside her body, causing huge pain and an additional surgery. She goes, 'I don't know what to do.

The recovery process was tough. "You're on bed rest, you're allowed to walk for an hour a day, and you can't do any stairs or anything insane".

Raisa even had to write a will before donating a kidney. In a 2013 interview with Latina, Raisa shared that she met Gomez six years before, in 2009, when Disney and ABC Family (now Freeform) had the stars of their shows visit a children's hospital.

Now that Gomez has a new kidney, there's only a three to five percent chance that her Lupus will come back. "That's not real", Gomez added. "So I actually got a space for us to be in together". "I hope that this inspires people to feel good, to know that there is really good people in the world".
