Bills Acquire WR Kelvin Benjamin From Panthers

For the Panthers, the move is a bit more puzzling, considering Benjamin provided a big target for Cam Newton. Both previously worked for the Panthers before being hired by Buffalo this year.

But if Benjamin's not 100%, the Panthers get to wiggle out of the fifth-year option they inked him to and get a third-rounder (and a meaningless seventh-rounder) out of this.

Benjamin provides a much-needed boost to the Bills' receiving corps, which has lacked a No. 1 threat since Sammy Watkins was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in August.

An ESPN NFL reporter also liked the trade on the Bills end.

Bills receivers now rank last in the league in receptions (45) and receiving yards (594).

After the team managed a 17-3 win over the Tampa Bay Bucs to snap a two-game losing streak, Newton had this to say about Benjamin, the franchise's first-round pick in 2014 who caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter of that victory. Benjamin missed the 2015 season due to an ACL tear, and this season he is experiencing some pain in that same knee. So far this season, Buffalo's wide receivers rank last in the National Football League in receptions (45) and last in receiving yards (594). Benjamin rebounded from his injury to register a 60-catch and 900-yard season a year ago.
