The only child of Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Dina Wadia, died on Thursday in NY, reportedly due to pneumonia.

"Oddly enough, precisely 28 years to the day and hour before the birth of Jinnah's other offspring, Pakistan", Wolpert wrote in his acclaimed biography on the founder of Pakistan "Jinnah of Pakistan" (1982). Jinnah's descendants being Parsis was a well kept secret by the Pakistani authorities for many years. Wadia had not traveled to Pakistan since her father's funeral in September 1948. She was born to pre-Partition Bombay's most glamorous couple, an Ismaili-Shia Muslim and Ratanbai Dinshaw Petit, a Parsi girl hurriedly converted to Islam. Her marriage with Neville, however, failed and resulted in a divorce and this helped bridge the gap between herself and her father, Jinnah. She was 98. The Foreign Office in a message said that President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi "expressed deepest condolences, on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, on the passing away of Ms Dina Wadia". Jinnah, in his will, had left the $400 million property for his sister Fatima, who died shortly after his demise. Dina last visited India in 2008, and, besides Nusli Wadia, is survived by her daughter Diana, her grandsons Ness and Jeh, Jeh's wife Celina and two great grandchildren, Jah and Ella Wadia.
